Crossing the Atlantic in Style: Welcome to a Grand Duplex Suite onboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 Ocean Liner (including PRICES)

As far back as I can remember, I’ve wanted to complete this historic crossing, and I was absolutely thrilled to finally do so in December 2023. In this post today, I’m showing you inside a room that very few will ever get the chance to experience on this ship: a Grand Duplex Suite. This is the highest tier of stateroom (or cabin) available within the Queen’s Grill category.

For anyone not sure, a ‘Queens Grill’ stateroom unlocks a whole new level of benefits, including access to exclusive venues onboard reserved only for those staying in these room grades. You’ll also receive unrivalled service while you’re onboard, from your own attentive butler.

You’re only going to find two of these exclusive Grand Duplex Suites onboard Queen Mary 2, and they’re both at the very back of the ship on Deck 9/10. They occupy the two rear corners of the ship, with 3 standard (they’re anything but standard…) Duplex Suites sitting between them.

These Grand Duplex Suites are named the Sandringham Duplex (9.069) and the Balmoral Duplex (9.089).

Ok, let’s now take a look inside - welcome to a Grand Duplex Suite onboard Cunard’s world-famous Queen Mary 2!

The above pictures show the living areas on the lower floor of the Suite. Down here, you’ll find a Living Room area, complete with sofa and armchairs, a Dining area, an individual workstation, a small toilet and a kitchen area.

Don’t worry - you won’t be using the kitchen to cook your dinner - you’ll be very well looked after on this ship if you’re staying in here!

Next, let’s take a look upstairs…

Impressive, right? Up here, you’re going to find the master bedroom of the Suite, which even features a mezzanine housing an exercise bike. Personally, I think more could be done with this space to further improve the feeling of luxury, but I guess guests in here must like a quick spin in the morning?

You’ll also find dressing room spaces, and a huge bathroom setup shown in the photos above.

So, am I whetting your appetite to cross the Atlantic in style by opting to stay in a Grand Duplex on this ship? Well, let’s move on to look at pricing.

I’ve done some research to acquire costs to cruise in this room for both a 7 night Transatlantic, and also the 14 night equivalent. You might want to sit down for this part…

Let’s start with the 14 nights, as that actually seems to be the ‘better' deal’…

If you were to cruise for a 14 night roundtrip Transatlantic Crossing, leaving on October 24th 2024, you could cruise in this Suite for £42,638 (£3,046 per night), according to the price on Cunard’s website. I do wonder how much room a Travel Agent would have to negotiate a price like this - would you believe that this is actually higher than the average salary in the UK?

If you’re visiting this site from the USA, the cost for this Suite for 14 nights is $53,606 ($3,829 per night).

Here’s the price overview below, and yes, I did laugh at the fact you get free shuttle buses included with your fare - I should think so at this level…!

Don’t want to be away from home for the full 7 nights? Don’t worry - there are plenty of 7 night crossings available, which will take you in one direction.

To set off on September 26th 2025 in a Grand Duplex Suite, you’re looking at £30,478 (£4,354 per night), or $38,318 (or $5,474 per night). I never thought I’d say it, but it looks like you’re MUCH better value opting to stay in this Suite for the 2 weeks - go on, treat yourself…!

There’s no denying - Queen Mary 2 is an icon of the Seas, and a ship that can be easily recognised in a bustling port. I would absolutely LOVE to experience this Suite for myself one day. Who knows - I can keep dreaming…!
