Okay, you’re planning to take a cruise, but you’re not sure what you need to pack to take with you? No problem - I’ve put together a list of 7 things that should really help to improve your experience!
The best part? Lots of these items are currently ON SALE on Amazon, so you should be able to save some money shopping through this page today, too!
1. Apple AirTags! Click here
These ones had to come first in the list - I don’t head off on a single trip without these! These really useful (and small!) bits of kit allow you to keep track of your belongings at any given time. I find them particularly useful to put inside my suitcases when I’m travelling, and I also put one inside my laptop bag. This way, if any of my bags leave my side, or I’ve checked them in for my flight or cruise, I can see if the bags have made it onto the plane - a real stress reliever!
If my bags ever go missing, these tags make it MUCH easier to find them - they’ll help you find them!
When I’m not travelling, I use these for loads of different purposes - I leave one in my car, which would allow me to track if down if it ever was stolen (which hopefully it won’t be…), or if I lose it in a large car park / parking lot…! You can also attach them to keys etc - the list is endless!
2. Magnetic Hooks! Click here
Did you know: when you take a cruise, every wall in your cabin is going to be metal, and therefore magnetic? Yes, cruise lines will usually decorate so that the rooms look much more ‘homely’, but the walls are still metal!
This comes in particularly handy when you think about storage. When I cruise, I always use magnetic hooks to serve 2 purposes… First, they allow me to stick paperwork (daily schedules, port information, dining reservations etc) to the wall, rather than having paper lying around everywhere. Second, I can then hang things up! Think baseball caps, cruise card lanyards - these little hooks are just so useful!
3. Travel Wash! Click here
Looking for a really easy way to wash your clothes while you’re travelling? Well, this is it! I discovered this travel wash a few years ago while travelling across the USA, and I now take it on every single cruise!
All you need to do is squeeze some of this into the sink in your cabin bathroom, and then you can wash your clothes in clean water, hang them using the in-cabin washing line, and then continue your day while they dry!
Now, I don’t use this stuff to complete a full wash - that would result in me having washing hanging everywhere… I use this to wash things like socks, or used gym kit just to keep it fresh in the room - I now swear by it!
4. Sea-Band Travel & Motion Sickness Bands! Click here!
Are you worried about feeling motion sick on your cruise due to the motion of the ship? Being totally truthful, I’ve never had any major issues with this - I could count on one hand how many times I’ve felt unwell at sea due to the motion.
However, one thing I did take on my first few cruises was a pair of Sea-Bands. These little bands put a slight amount of pressure on the pressure points on your wrists, and can help to stabilise you. It just feels like you’re wearing a bracelet - after a few minutes, you’ll forget they’re even there!
If you’re looking for a drug-free way to medicate in rougher seas, then this could be the answer that you’re looking for!
5. ‘Over the Door’ Storage Solutions. Click here!
As a solo traveller, I’ve never needed this sort of storage solution. However, if I was travelling with multiple people, or as a family, I think this could come in incredibly useful.
Cruise ship cabins are small environments, and there’s one thing that I’ve learned in my time cruising: it’s essential that you keep the cabin clean and tidy, otherwise it quickly becomes a difficult place to relax.
This is where an ‘over the door’ storage option comes in. These are super easy to use - just hang the hooks (which are included) over the top of your bathroom door, and then you can use all of the pouches to store your things!
This is particularly useful if you’re going to be travelling in a room that doesn’t have a huge amount of storage, or if you want to be able to see your things while you’re hunting for what you need!
6. A Universal Travel Adaptor - Click here!
Look out! I always assumed that I only needed a universal travel adaptor if I was going to be travelling overseas. However, did you know that cruise ships have a whole array of power outlets? For this reason, I always travel smart, by packing one of these adaptors in my bag.
This way, no matter what type of power outlet the cruise ship has onboard, I’ll be covered!
So, why does a cruise ship not have a standard power outlet? Well, the answer’s simple - these ships are constantly travelling to different places, and they’re owned by companies based in different parts of the world.
Generally speaking, if you board an American-owned cruise ship, you’ll find it’ll have American power outlets. A British ship will have outlets that fit a UK plug socket, and European ships will have outlets to fit appliances with a European plug.
You get the picture - be smart, and pack a universal travel adaptor!
7. Staying in an Inside Cabin? You should think about a Sunrise alarm clock! Click here!
If you’re planning to stay in an ‘inside cabin’ (a room without a window) for your next cruise, you might like this one! I know so many people who opt to travel with a sunrise alarm clock, as they’re able to then have an understanding in the morning of what time it is, rather than waking up in a pitch black room!
These clocks imitate a natural sunrise, allowing you to wake up due to the increased ‘daylight’ in the room. If you’re aware of what inside cabins are like, you’ll appreciate that it’s REALLY dark when you wake up in there!
This might help you wake up a little more ‘ready’ to face the day when you’re cruising - every little helps, right?!
