Want to learn how to make Towel Animals? Well, now you can!

So you’ve taken a cruise, or stayed in a hotel, and returned to your room to find a towel animal in there. If you’re anything like me, you maybe find them fascinating, but have you ever tried to MAKE your own towel animal? If you spend a few minutes learning how to make an animal or two, you might just be able to impress your friends or family when they next visit. Maybe you’ll have a new party trick…!!

If you’d like to start by learning how to make some basic animals (yes, basic - believe me!), then I’ll show you how to make both a dog and an elephant in the below YouTube video. Towel animals have been around on cruise ships for years, but they’ve been decreasing in frequency over the last few years for a number of reasons.

One of the main reasons for this is that, after the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, multiple cruise lines made the decision to trim back housekeeping offerings, meaning that cabin attendants would be spending much less time inside passenger cabins.

As a result, things like towel animals were considered a ‘luxury’, and they were therefore one of the first things to disappear from some ships, unless you were staying in a suite-grade cabin on some lines.

I’ve returned to my cabins on Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Costa Cruises and a few others to find towel animals, so they’re not fully ‘gone’ yet! Personally, I hope they never leave the ships!

Multiple cruise lines have recognised that passengers, generally speaking, love to receive towel animals. I’ve been on some cruises where passengers can attend ‘sea day’ activities, where they can learn from the crew how to make a few different towel animals. On a recent Carnival cruise, I was able to learn how to make both a dog and elephant (as shown in the above video).

I’ve found some really great resources that could also help you to make your own animals. If you click here, you’ll be taken to a Royal Caribbean handout, where you can learn how to make NINE different towel animals! The below images are of a Disney handout, where you can learn how to create two of their signature towel animals!

There are so many towel animals for you to choose from, so hopefully this post has been able to help you make one of your favourites.
